Sweet
Smell of Success
THE
SWEET SMELL of success could bring up to 15 badly-needed jobs
to Stranraer.
Dave
Taylor has set up a business, Ultra-Scent Ltd, to make equipment
to produce smells. He is negotiating for an order for 700
with a firm which deals with food fragrances. And a more sophisticated
model will soon be tested by 13 firms, including the world-renowned
Estee Lauder in the United States.
In
anticipation of landing the initial order, Dave, who works
from a small factory unit on Stranraer's Blackparks Estate,
is looking for four people, men or women, to train to make
the units.
And
he told the Free Press this week:
"If
the potential is realised, we will need around 15 people
for assembly work".
Fifty-three-year-old
Dave has been working on the project for five years and says
development costs have taken more than £100,000.
After
almost a year negotiating with Scottish Enterprise Dumfries
and Galloway resulted in an investment grant to enable him
to make 13 of the more sophisticated units for trials.
