Princess
Victoria 50th Anniversary Plans
LOCAL
POLITICIANS and council chiefs have met with their counterparts
from across the North Channel to discuss plans for commemorating
the loss of the Princess Victoria.
The
ship sank in 1953 and groups from both the Stranraer and the
Larne areas are now gearing up to mark the 50th anniversary
of the loss.
An
existing memorial is situated in Stranraer's Agnew Park and
a further tribute is to be built next to it to record the
passing of the 50th
anniversary.
The
new memorial will be just one of a number of ways in which
the loss is remembered. Church services and other functions
are being arranged by groups on both sides of the channel.
Beth
Gordon, depute convener of Dumfries and Galloway Council,
told the Free Press
"It
is a situation which we must deal with sensitively, taking
into account the feelings of the relatives and friends of
those who died".
