GOING BATTY!
SCHOOLGIRL
Bethany Leslie thought she was going batty at the weekend.
Bethany
(7) was at her gran's house in Stranraer's Agnew Crescent
when she
noticed an unusual-looking creature had flown in the back
door. Closer inspection revealed it was a tiny bat - but
the drama did not end there.
The little animal looked in some
distress and unable to move easily. But
the cause was a perfectly natural one - it was in the middle
of giving
birth! Bethany said:
"I first
saw it lying on the bathroom floor. I had never seen
a bat before.
"We thought
it looked a bit funny. Then my sister Bronwyn said it was
having a baby!"
The girls' gran, Carrie Jones, said:
"There
was great excitement at the
sight of the bat and then we saw it was moving about in
a strange way. It
was Bronwyn who noticed what was happening."
Carrie
called a local vet for advice and has since been in touch
with
Scottish Natural Heritage about what to do since.
"They told
me to leave it outside at night and it should fly away," she
said.
"That was at
the weekend and it is still here!"
