Community Summit in Stranraer

A MAJOR conference aimed at tackling Wigtownshire's drugs problem is to be held in Stranraer, the Free Press has learned.

The event being billed as a Community Summit will look to bring together representatives from a variety of agencies, such as the police, council, voluntary groups, health and education services. Students from Stranraer Academy are set to get involved too.

The conference is being planned by council chiefs who say they want to keep the momentum going in the battle against drugs. Although the summit is unlikely to be a public meeting, organisers are looking for interested parties to get involved either by nominating themselves or by being invited along.

"The council are looking at what they have done and what they can do in the future on this issue," said a council source.

They added that the summit will be held in Stranraer sometime within the next six months but "hopefully much sooner than that".
