Cheese Company Jobs

NEARLY 500 PEOPLE have applied for fifteen jobs with the Caledonian Cheese Company in Stranraer.

And there is likely to be an even bigger rush when a multi-million pound cheese-packing plant is built on an adjoining site, bringing with it around 40 more vacancies.

The jobs on offer now, some permanent and others seasonal, will be created when a new butter and skim milk powder plant comes on stream at the beginning of April.

McLelland Cheese, the part-owners of the creamery, are to build the packing plant, which will be equipped with the latest in automatic packing robots, with the assistance of major cash aid from the Scottish Executive.

Jobs there are likely to be for people with engineering, electronic and computing skills.
