Pier Plans Stalled

MOVES to grab a £600,000 windfall for spending on the West Pier at Stranraer have stalled.

But local councillor Willie Scobie is still hopeful that he can persuade his colleagues to agree to release the money.

When the issue came before the full Dumfries and Galloway Council on Tuesday, members refused, by 21 votes to 19, to consider the matter then. They did, however, agree that it should go to the Environment and Infrastructure Committee to be investigated there. And although Mr Scobie is not a member of that committee, he told the Free Press this week that he plans to seek dispensation which would allow him to speak on the subject at the meeting.

He added:

This gives me a further chance to try to persuade members to go along with my argument".
