Police on the Streets
POLICE
took to the streets of Stranraer at the weekend as part of
a unique initiative aimed at tackling vandalism.
With
the problem a priority for the Stranraer police and public
alike, an extensive programme of house visits were carried
out in the town. Having been identified in police research
as being particularly vulnerable to vandalism, three local
areas were the focus of the weekend attention Trades Court
to Dalrymple Street; Agnew Crescent to Sheuchan Street; and
Dick's Hill.
Police
talked to resident in each of the areas and questionnaires
were completed for 188 of the 358 addresses they visited.
A leaflet explaining the initiative was left at each home.
Stranraer
area Inspector Ian Cowie said:
"While
vandalism was the principal target, we were also encouraging
people to give us information about other issues, including
crime in general and the availability and supply of drugs.
"As
Operation Emperor showed, all information we receive
is evaluated and acted upon."
