A Message from The Queen
A
MESSAGE from The Queen signalled the beginning of a special
celebration for one Stranraer couple this week.
For
Alec and Anne Clark, of the town's Lochinch Place, received
a card from Her Royal Highness to mark their Diamond Wedding
anniversary which they celebrated yesterday (Wednesday).
Mr
Clark, a former soldier and retired restaurant manager, met
his wife-to-be at a village dance in Castle Kennedy in 1942
as he served in the Pioneer Corps in South-West Scotland.
They married at Sheuchan Church, Stranraer, on 23rd April,
1943.
The
couple then moved to London and worked together at the imaginatively-named
Eccentric Club restaurant where, amongst others, they had
the privilege of dining Prince Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh.
On
retiring from the catering business the couple moved back
to Stranraer.
They
have one son, Kenneth, who works as a regional organiser for
the Labour Party in London.
