Retail Jobs for Stranraer

Glasgow-based architects Cooper Cromar, acting for developers Palisade Properties, who are also based in the city, have given the Free Press an exclusive look at a £1 million retail project which will bring Argos, New Look and Birthdays to the town.

Palisade director Paul Doherty has already said the development will lead to over 50 full-time jobs in Stranraer.

Building work will start soon on the Bellevilla House site. Most of the former old folk's home has been demolished, with just the original house still standing.

Originally, fast food giants McDonald's were earmarked to take over the site, but were outbid by Palisade who, the Free Press understand, paid £250,000 for the site, outbidding McDonald's by around £35,000.

Planning permission for the project was finally given in July last year when consent to demolish the 200-year-old Bellevilla House was given together with the go-ahead for three retail outlets totalling 16,850 square feet.
