STRANRAER AGRICULTURAL SHOW
STRANRAER
Agricultural Show continues to grow and maintain its position
as the premier one-day show for dairy livestock in South-West
Scotland.
This
year's show in London Road Playing Fields yesterday (Wednesday)
saw entries rise. Last year the show bucked the trend of many
shows with an increase over the last show in 2000 and has
again increased livestock entries which are moving towards
the 1000 mark - an achievement due in no small part to the
hard-working committee.
John
Kinnaird, president of the National Farmers' Union Scotland,
was scheduled to attend this year's event, making himself
available to talk to farmers.
Holstein
section entries are at the 135 level and both Ayrshire and
Jersey sections increased their numbers this year.
The
sheep section was also strong with almost 400 entries covering
all
breeds, Blackface, Suffolk, Border Leicester, Bluefaced Leicester,
Scotch Mule, Charollais, Texel and the new Beltex section.
