A DRIVING SUCCESS
POLICE
say they are seeing early success in their campaign to
cut down on
irresponsible driving.
So-called
street racers have
become the target of police action after
complaints from local residents. The problem is particularly
prevalent in
the centres of Stranraer and Newton Stewart.
Police
this week praised both the Free Press and
the public for their help
in tackling the issue - and urged people to keep information
coming in.
At a meeting of Cree Valley Community Council on Monday,
Constable Steven
Ritchie said:
"We
have received a number of good intelligence reports from
the public on this.
"As
a result, a number of people are being investigated and
some will be
reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
"Hopefully
we are getting the message through to those involved that
their
behaviour in cars is not acceptable and will not
be tolerated.
"We
have had a good response since our campaign started and
the local Press
coverage has been very helpful.
"Intelligence
received has allowed us to target a number of individuals.
"The
police view this as a serious issue and I would urge
the public to keep
providing us with information on anyone involved
in street racing."
