STRANRAER WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT A MULTI-million pound redevelopment programme for Stranraer
waterfront has
been adopted as a priority by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Along
with the regeneration of Dumfries town centre, the waterfront
project
in Stranraer will be at the forefront of the council's
corporate plan over
the next four years.
That means it will be at the front of
the queue for funding as soon as the
ferry operator Stena Line leave the harbour. It also means
that research can
begin in earnest as to the future of the vast waterfront,
to the delight of
local councillors.
Speaking after last week's Corporate
Policy Committee meeting, Stranraer
councillor Robert Higgins, vice-chairman of the committee,
said it was good
news for the town.
"This
means we can prioritise funding for the project as soon
as Stena Line
leave the town now" said Mr Higgins.
Members of the committee,
including those from the east of the region, were
unanimous in their decision to prioritise Stranraer with
Dumfries. |
