Street Warden Training
STRANRAER'S first ever street warden team went into
training this week - and
they vowed to make their patch a safer and happier place
to live.
The six-strong Community Warden team will be the
eyes and ears of the Dick's
Hill and Belmont area. Decked out in maroon uniforms the
officers will patrol the streets and
report to the relevant authorities on any nuisance - be
it drug dealing,
nuisance neighbours or dog dirt.
They will not possess the
power to arrest but it is hoped their presence
will cut the crime levels and improve the environment for
locals to enjoy a
better quality of life.
At the head of the team is Wigtown
man Shaun Plows, a former production
control engineer from the Midlands.
As Senior Warden he said:
"This is a challenge and
is the chance to do
something for the community who, for years, felt like
they were treated
almost as second class citizens.
"These people deserve
a certain quality of life and we will strive to
improve the environment and reduce the fear of crime
these people face in
everyday life."
