Manhunt Underway

A MANHUNT is underway after a police car chase ended dramatically near Portpatrick.

A man fled just after 2pm on Tuesday after his vehicle hit a pursuing police car. Police immediately warned the public not to approach the man, who is believed to be armed with a knife.

Later, they switched their attention to the Gatehouse of Fleet area after a car was stolen from Stranraer early yesterday (Wednesday) morning. The vehicle is said to be a purple-and-grey Rover 216, registration number L608 XVV.

It was last seen driving along the A75, turning off towards the Stewartry town. It may still be in that area or may have been driven off cross country. Anyone seeing it should contact police.

The chase is thought to have begun on Tuesday afternoon when man a was challenged by officers as he went to board a ferry at Stranraer. He took off in the car he was driving and was pursued by officers in an unmarked police vehicle.

The high-powered car he was driving sped towards the South Rhins. But the man is thought to have fled after hitting the police car on a country road south of the Lochans to Portpatrick stretch of the A77.
