Pub Watch gets Stranraer Connected
A SCHEME aimed at linking pubs by radio to combat disorder
related to
excessive drinking is to be started in Stranraer before
Christmas.
Pub Watch Stranraer will see licensees in the
town get together with police
to start the scheme before the busy Christmas and New
Year spell gets
underway.
The initiative is based on pubs in the area renting
radio equipment similar
to that used successfully by retailers in Stranraer to
target shoplifters.
Radios will connect those signed
up directly to police, CCTV operators and
other licensed premises. This will allow Pub Watch
members to alert each
other and police to potential trouble makers heading
their way.
Any revellers who do step out of line can
later be barred from Pub Watch
member pubs for a limited time or indefinitely. With
take up for the scheme
expected to be high, this would effectively bar
perpetrators from most
licensed premises in the town.
