Girls' Team heading to Semis
STRANRAER ACADEMY girls will be heading to Lesser Hampden
next month, along
with Stewarton Academy, Dumfries High School and Marr College.
They
came through the Coca-Cola Sevens regional play-offs
to take a place in
the national semis.
In their first game in the second round
at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock, they
played against Stewarton and they put up a fine performance,
winning 2-1
with both goals coming from Agnew. In the second game
against Irvine Royal,
Alana McCulloch scored a fine opening goal, but, unfortunately,
in spite of
constant pressure they failed to add to their score,
but ran out comfortable
1-0 winners.
In the final game with Auchinleck Academy they
required a draw to ensure
qualification and once again Agnew and McCulloch were
on the scoresheet to
lead 2-1, but only a brilliant penalty save by Calderwood
kept the Stranraer
girls in front. An equaliser soon followed, but in
spite of tiring legs the
team held out to maintain their unbeaten record and
top their group.
