Stranraer Housing Boost
HOUSING in Dumfries and Galloway is in line for a £13
million boost - with
an area of Stranraer earmarked for a major share in the
cash.
South central Stranraer is one of three areas prioritised
by the council
under the local housing strategy.
Residents in that area
are to have a say in what work is carried out on
their doorstep and will be lobbied by councillors in a
bid to improve the
condition of their housing stock.
Local councillors hope
work on a regeneration package could start by next
year.
Stranraer South member Willie Scobie said:
"We need
to set up a working
group to find out what would be the optimum desire
for residents living in
south central Stranraer and work back from there.
"The working
group would then draw down on some of this money."
The £13 million comes from the sale of land at the
Cuckoo Bridge in Dumfries
to supermarket giants Tesco.
