Councillors' Warning for Stranraer
COUNCILLORS have warned that "Stranraer will die" if
the seafront project is
jeopardised.
At the Wigtown West Area committee meeting last Wednesday,
it was proposed
that a council member should head the working group to
ensure the smooth
running of the project.
Tony Fitzpatrick, from the council's
economic regeneration department, said
the "bold and ambitious" project, carried
out by Dumfries and Galloway
Council and Scottish Enterprise, was "on track."
But
councillors said with so much at stake the council should
have more
involvement at a local level.
Tommy Sloan said:
"I am pleased with the pace this
thing is going at and
Tony (Fitzpatrick) is doing a great job - but we have
to remember he is
doing it along with his day job.
"We need someone else as
well who is doing this and this alone to show
Enterprise that we are serious.
"Stranraer would die if
the Waterfront issue was not seen through. We would
simply become a tourist town that often does not have
many tourists in it."
