Son of "Mr Big" in Jail

THE SON of the man dubbed the Mr Big of Stranraer's heroin trade has joined his father in jail.

Alan Saunders (23), formerly of Beddie Crescent, Wigtown, was sentenced to four years at the High Court on Monday.

He admitted delivering an ounce of heroin a week for more than six months to drug addicts in Stranraer and Newton Stewart.

Most of the proceeds - around £100,000 per month - went to his father, John Ringland.

Ringland (44), formerly of Shawfield, Stranraer, was himself jailed at the end of last year for a period of eight years.

Both Ringland and Saunders were snared during Dumfries and Galloway police's hugely-successful anti-drugs blitz entitled Operation Emperor. The purge has now netted jail terms in excess of 60 years.

The High Court in Glasgow heard this week how dealer Saunders, himself an addict, was paid in heroin. He admitted being involved in the supply of heroin between June and December 2002 at various addresses in Stranraer and Newton Stewart.
