Harbour Dredging to Start
DREDGING at Stranraer Harbour is due to get underway next
week. Work at the harbour, which will stay open during
the dredge, will start on
Monday and is scheduled to go on over the winter months
until mid February.
The dredge will be carried out by Fleetwood
based Wyre Waste Management.
Harbour users have been contacted about
the procedure, which will see boats
being moved from one half of the harbour to the other
while dredging takes
place.
Material will then be dumped at Beaufort Dyke in
the North Channel after the
council secured a licence for this.
Tony Fitzpatrick, the
council's Group Manager for
Economic Regeneration,
confirmed that the dredge is due to start and added that
this is a positive
sign that Stranraer's Waterfront Project is forging
ahead.
Mr Fitzpatrick said:
"We are delighted to see the
work starting, with the
company happy to work through the winter to get the
job finished.
"Although this is a maintenance dredge, it is clearly
a sign that things are
starting to happen at the Waterfront."
