New Hospital a Step Closer
MAJOR steps were taken towards the construction of Stranraer’s
new £11.5 million hospital this week.
At a meeting
of Dumfries and Galloway NHS Board in Dumfries, members
approved a recommendation to accept a tender from
Northern Irish firm John Graham (Dromore) Ltd, subject
to the satisfactory completion of contracts.
It means the
construction phase is now underway with members left to
finalise a start date for construction.
The hospital, which
will cost more than £11.5 million,
is to be built on the site of the Dalrymple Hospital, part
of which has already been demolished.
When finished it will
provide facilities for palliative care, renal and maternity
services, physiotherapy, day
surgery and investigations, medical inpatients, outpatients,
rehab, and accident and emergency.
Board Chairman, John
Ross, said:
“This is a major
step forward for this development.
“Stranraer needs new hospital facilities and this
integrated hospital complex will provide a modern, high
quality environment
in which our staff can continue to provide high quality
care for the local community.”
