Phone Mast Go Ahead
A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build a 20-metre-high phone mast
in the centre of
Stranraer was given the go ahead last week despite objections.
The
mast is set to appear on the town's skyline behind
the telephone
exchange at Clenoch Street after councillors approved applicant
Crown Castle
International's plan.
Councillors heard that a previous
proposal to site the mast nearby in the
grounds of the exchange would have placed it directly
behind the Stranraer
Town Kirk, formerly St. Andrew's Church.
Following a site visit, however, the applicant was told
that the siting of
the mast would have to be revised, as it would "adversely
affect the setting
of the category B-listed building".
The new site, approved
by councillors at last week's Wigtown Regulatory meeting
in Stranraer, now sits directly
behind
three properties
on Ivy
Place. These include the Ivy House and the Jan Da Mar
guest houses.
