New Cancer Care Unit for Wigtownshire
CANCER patients in Wigtownshire will soon have a new state-of-the
art
palliative care unit in Stranraer.
For the £650,000 needed for the facility in the
new health complex to
replace the Garrick and Dalrymple Hospitals has now been
raised - in just
one year instead of the planned two.
Next step is a campaign to persuade the health board to
provide chemotherapy
treatment at the unit - space will be provided there
for such a service.
With the board coming up with £150,000 towards the
cost of the unit, other
groups were given the job of raising the rest.
Order of
St John received a £156,000 boost towards
their shape when they
were left that amount in the will of Portpatrick woman
Mrs Margaret
Hamilton. Their target was reached earlier this year.
Now
fundraising partners the Palliative Care Steering Group
have announced
they too have raised their share.
