Spartans Army on the March!

A SCOTTISH Cup run beyond his wildest dreams has thrust a former Stranraer footballer and his teammates into the national spotlight.

Euan Hoy, whose parents still live in Jubilee Crescent, is one of the Spartans side who have made history by reaching the last 16 of the national cup tournament.

As national newspapers have screamed out for the last four weeks since the Edinburgh side's amazing run began, the Spartans Army is on the march! And 31-year-old Euan has played his part in that march, which has seen the club lift the Qualifying Cup (South) before putting Buckie Thistle, Alloa Athletic and Arbroath to the sword in the cup proper.

Now the East of Scotland League side are gearing up for a clash with the cosmopolitan stars of Premier League Livingston on 7th February - a clash they hope to keep at their own ramshackle City Park.

Euan, an accountant for Lloyd Bowmaker in the capital, told the Free Press:

"It has been unbelievable, we have had the BBC, STV and all the newspapers following us around for weeks now.

"The interest this run has generated is just phenomenal.

"But we never in our wildest dreams expected to get this far. Just qualifying for the Scottish Cup is what non-league clubs like ourselves aim for".
