Boys and Girls Kept Apart on Buses

SCHOOL pupils are being segregated by gender in a bid to curb trouble on the buses.

Bus operators Stagecoach introduced the bizarre measure at Stranraer Academy last month after a series of minor incidents involving rowdy youngsters. Boys and girls are now kept apart on two of the company's school services - those to Larg Road and the West End.

As the boys are being guided upstairs by "guards" on the double decker buses, the girls are asked to stay downstairs. The system is then reversed the following week, allowing the girls upstairs.

According to bosses at Stagecoach, their method has already proved a success. But pupils at the school are not so sure. A representative of the school's Student Council said:

"Just because there was trouble on one of the buses doesn¹t mean they have to introduce this on other buses too.

"The pupils think it's over the top and can't see the point in it, it¹s all a bit bizarre".
