Bill Picks up Gold (Again!)
MUSCLEMAN Bill McFadyen was in seventh heaven this week
- after picking up
his seventh powerlifting gold medal in just three years.
Bill
(70) pipped German rival Gunter Wittkowski to the title
in the 90kg
Masters 3 class of the European Championships in Hamm,
Luxembourg.
Despite the German and Bill both finishing top
of the class with lifts of
175kg, Bill was crowned champion due to his slighter body
weight.
After his feat he said:
"This was a new body weight
for me so these guys are
generally lifting heavier weights than the competitors
I have been used to.
It was a hell of a challenge!
" The German lifted 175kg and on his final lift
went for broke and tried to
lift 180kg. But he failed and so I decided to just
match his 175kg lift on
my last attempt because I knew that would be enough.
"You
must protect the gold, that's what I told myself!"
The
win is Bill's third European Championship gold
and has added to a
collection including three world golds and a champion of
champion gold.
Bill
is assisted in his global domination by the Wigtown West
Area Committee and
the Wigtownshire Sports Council.
