Crown named Scottish Seafood Pub of the
Year
STAFF at the Crown Hotel in Portpatrick are celebrating
after being named
Scottish Seafood Pub of the Year 2004.
The harbourside hostelry impressed judges with their menu
of fine quality
seafood, most of which is landed locally.
The award is recognition
for the hard work of the six chefs and 13 waiting
staff employed at the hotel.
And the Crown now goes head
to head with the English and Welsh award winners
for the title of British Seafood Pub of the Year which
will be announced on
9th March.
Said co-owner Craig Currie:
"You can't pay for
this title - they come and
grade you and you are rewarded on your own merits.
Seafood is what we are
good at, it's all local produce."
In his judgement,
Peter Birnie, the AA's Chief Hotel and Restaurant
Inspector, paid tribute to the Crown's menu.
He said:
"It typically includes moules mariniere,
crab salad, grilled lobster and a trio of hot seafood.
The wine list is carefully chosen and
there are 70 or more malt whiskies to choose from."
