Medal for Lochans' Curling Ace
CURLING ace Kay Adams from Lochans has returned from the
European Youth
Olympic Winter Games in Switzerland clutching a prized
bronze medal.
Kay and the rest of the British team took
part in last week's event,
sanctioned by the Olympic Committee, along with over
2000 athletes from 48
countries.
Victories for the British girls' team over
Germany, Russia and Italy in the
round-robin of the event in Champéry, were enough
to see them through to
the semis, where they then faced the host nation for a
place in the final.
While Kay, (17), and her team mates
were eventually edged out 7-4 by the Swiss team, who
eventually went on to take
gold, the overall feeling of the
squad was that they had achieved their goals.
Speaking to
the Free Press about her experiences over the last week,
Kay
said:
"It was amazing. Ten times better than I thought
it would be.
"Being on the podium with the national anthem
playing brought home just how
big the event really was.
"It was great knowing that all
of the hard work and training had paid off,
and was quite emotional."
