Innovation, Investment and Brands
NEW owners of McLelland's Stranraer cheese production
and packing facility
have placed innovation, investment and brands at the heart
of their plans
for the creamery.
Speaking at a meeting with the Farmers
Creamery Co-operative, Andy Smith
managing director of McLelland's stressed the importance
of Stranraer to the
company's national and international plans.
"The Stranraer
facility is now part of a global company and with that
comes
significant opportunity," he said.
"McLelland can now
access new investment through Lactalis and Stranraer
will benefit from this. This investment will come in
a number
of forms. We will
be looking to invest in the factory and where it
helps, to use knowledge and
experience from Lactalis".
Mr Smith added:
"We are also ready to invest just under £3
million in the
marketing of Seriously Strong and Galloway cheddar in
the UK this year, and
we believe that this will boost demand for the products.
"We
are also seeking to place the products made at Stranraer
at the head of
a drive to grow sales of cheddar in overseas markets,
through our
subsidiaries around the world and through our global
customers."
