Portpatrick Tsunami Disaster Appeal Success
RESIDENTS of Portpatrick have raised an outstanding £3885.87
in aid of the
Asian tsunami appeal.
The total was reached thanks to Saturday's
Fundraising Day at the village
hall organised by the Portpatrick Tsunami Disaster Appeal,
as well as
donations taken throughout the week.
Fundraising on Saturday took the form of a table sale,
and appeal organiser
Bill Gosson hopes to stage an even bigger event, including
an auction and
grand draw, later in the year.
A public meeting has been
called for Monday, 24th January, at 6.45 pm in
the village hall to form a committee to help organise
future events.
Mr Gosson said the response to the appeal had gone
beyond all expectations.
He said:
"Not since September, 1939, the beginning
of the Second World War,
has there been such togetherness in people, from the
school children of
Portpatrick to the most senior citizens.
"We thank everybody
who has donated and given freely of their time and also
the public who came to support the event.
"It is our intention
in Portpatrick to continue this crusade throughout the
year towards the relief of the unfortunate people of Asia".
