Abnormal Load Alert

A NUMBER of abnormal loads will be travelling under police escort on roads between Cairnryan and Artfield Fell, New Luce as turbine blades are being carried to the windfarm there from now until the end of April.

Affected routes are A77 from Cairnryan to Innermessan; A751 at Innermessan to the A75 junction; A75 to Dunragit, C52, Dunragit Station Road; B7084 road to A75 at Whitecrook; A75 to C22, Three Lochs Road; C22 to C3; C3 to U89 and U89 to Artfield Fell.

These loads are expected to cause disruption and delays to traffic on major routes between 7 am and 9 am on most days. Minor routes will also be affected after 9 am on days when loads are being transported.

Although movement times have been planned to cause minimum disruption police will monitor the situation and may halt loads a suitable locations to clear traffic.

Police are asking motorists to allow extra time for journeys in affected areas, to be patient and aware that vehicles moving these loads will need most of the road to manoeuvre

Drivers with queries about these abnormal loads should contact the Mobile Support Group office at Stranraer on 01387 252 112.

The blades, made in Denmark, are being shipped to Ayr and loaded into lorries for the journey south to Artfield Fell.
